ORMOND BEACH, FL: James R. Demars, 64, died peacefully, Friday, February 10, 2012 in Beverly following a brief illness.
Born in Lawrence on June 14, 1947, he was the son of the late William and Germaine (Ouellette) Demars. He was a graduate of the Methuen public schools and had resided in Lawrence for many years before moving to Ormond Beach, Florida in 1994. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 8, 1968 and served in Germany and Czechoslovakia before being honorably discharged on December 8, 1969.
Jim was employed for many years in the steel industry and worked for the former Andrew-Wilson Company for several years. An avid NASCAR fan, he enjoyed working on automobiles as a hobby.
He is survived by his son, James R. Demars, Jr. and his wife, Kim of Milford; four grandchildren, Rebecca, Alyssa, Maddison and Zackary Demars; a brother, Wayne Demars of Lisbon, NH; dear friend and caregiver, Gail Grondin of Beverly and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by three brothers, William, Robert and Kenny Demars.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9 – 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Beacon Hospice, 100 Cummings Center, Suite 222C, Beverly, MA 01915.
